Aston Villa 2 Brighton & Hove Albion 1
Albion fell at the final hurdle as Matt Targett scored a winner for the home side deep into time added on.
It started so well for the Seagulls as Adam Webster put the Albion in front with his first goal for the club.
However, on 35 minutes Aaron Mooy was sent off, leaving Albion to play the remaining 55 minutes with just ten men.
Jack Grealish equalised for Villa in first half stoppage time, after a Conor Hourihane goal was ruled out by VAR.
Albion looked like holding out and had chances to go back in front.
But with seconds left Targett, assisted by Grealish smuggled all three points for Villa.
