Nearly 600 drivers were caught speeding in Brighton and Hove during a week-long crackdown by Sussex Police and the Sussex Safer Roads Partnership.
They were filmed driving faster than the speed limit by fixed Gatso cameras and mobile cameras around the city.
During the week traffic officers based in Haywards Heath – who cover Brighton and Hove – also carried out 69 speed checks.
Sussex Police said that the crackdown was part of a Europe-wide speed awareness campaign and the force had identified 1,691 offences across the county.
Inspector James Biggs, of the Sussex Police Roads Policing Unit, said: “Roads policing officers and the Sussex Safer Roads Partnership carry out constant speed checks on the roads of Sussex and it is disappointing to see that so many people continue to speed.
“Speed continues to be a common factor in serious injury collisions despite widespread publicity about the dangers.
“This was a week of concentrated speed enforcement as part of the campaign.
“However, speed enforcement forms part of our every-day duty and we will continue to conduct this activity in order to reduce the numbers of people killed or seriously injured on the roads of Sussex.
“Speed awareness courses are offered to those who are found to be marginally over the speed limit in a bid to educate them about how their behaviour affects others.”
The enforcement week ran from Monday 22 August to Sunday 28 August.
