UPDATE from PIXX 02.11.19:
“These last few weeks have been hard. i’ve got to pull out of all upcoming shows which is fu**ing sh*t cos i was really looking forward to seeing you all.
wanna say sorry to whitney, the crew, prima vera weekender and the boys who play with me live, the industry has temporarily screwed us all!
it’s been a beautiful journey as pixx and i’m going to miss it but for now at least i’m signing off. ive included a picture of me and a cat to let y’all know i’m ok.
thank you for supporting my records, i don’t have the words to explain what that means to me. thank you so much. i couldn’t have dreamt this journey up, and as much as i’m angry at the industry and the situation its landed me in, im truly grateful to the label for getting me out playing all over the world the last 5 years.
i want those of you who care for my music to know that im still writing all the time. i don’t know when i’ll be ready to release again but i hope you can find solace in knowing no amount of bullsh*t from the industry can hold this bitch down.
yeeeeeeee HA! ps you’re doing better than you think 🧡🤠”…………………………
The following was published on 3rd October prior to the above announcement!
One of the stars of The Great Escape new music festival this year and indeed also back in 2017, was an act going by the name of Pixx, which is the brainchild of twenty-something BRIT School graduate Hannah Rodgers.
Pixx will now be returning to Brighton as part of a nine date UK tour, with an appearance on Monday 25th November at the Komedia on Gardner Street, Brighton – grab your tickets HERE.
Originally from Chipstead, just beyond the fringes of south London where suburban sprawl starts to break into the countryside, Hannah’s is a family of music lovers and her early life was soundtracked by her father’s expansive record collection; she has previously cited acts as diverse as Joni Mitchell, Kate Bush and Altered Images. Encouraged to sing and write, these formative years led to her creative talents being recognised by the prestigious BRIT School. Aged 16, and already with a number of her own songs sketched out, Rodgers enrolled at the renowned performing arts college, previously attended by the likes of Adele, Amy Winehouse and King Krule. It was only after graduating that she began to think of doing anything with her own music, resisting the more mainstream route traditionally taken by her peers. Adopting her grandmother’s nickname, Pixx was born.
In June this year, Hannah returned with her second Pixx album, which was entitled ‘Small Mercies’, which consists of poetic examinations of love across the experiential spectrum, from the micro (self-love) to the macro (devotional faith-inspired love, love for this planet), set to a soundtrack that mixes electronic pop and grungy guitar rock with aplomb.
‘Small Mercies’ follows the debut album, ‘The Age Of Anxiety’ (2017) – an unsettling synth-pop record fuelled by Pixx’s own debilitating experience of angst – and 2015’s forlorn and folk-edged ‘Fall In’ EP. Co-produced by Simon Byrt (who worked on both her EP and debut album) and Dan Carey, it sees Pixx assuming different personas to examine the damage done by religion, gender-based power hierarchies and stereotypes, the tipping point of Earth’s destruction and love.

The Brighton & Hove News Great Escape Pixx concert reviews:
11th May 2019 Martin J. Fuller reported:
“I rounded off my Great Escape 2019 with Pixx (a.k.a. 23 year-old Londoner Hannah Rodgers) who I had previously witnessed play The Komedia Studio as part of this event two years ago. Tonight we saw her line up alongside her three band members at the atmospheric Fabrica, a converted church which is now a gallery and performance space on the corner of Duke Street and Ship Street.
What a difference 2 years makes! Her sound has matured from a more stripped back electro into a much more polished, expansive and confident brand of electronic pop-rock. I’m not sure if it was a cool art-student type vibe Hannah was trying to portray at the Komedia, however she seemed to be much happier performing tonight with her band, smiling constantly and dancing energetically throughout her set. To date, my favourite Pixx track has been ‘I Bow Down’ from her accomplished debut album ‘The Age Of Anxiety’. Tonight, however, the stand-out for me was her superb catchy new single ‘Andean Condor’ which you can listen to HERE. Pixx much-anticipated second album ‘Small Mercies’ will be released by 4AD records next month on the 7th June and is definitely one to look forward to if tonight was anything to go by.”
18th May 2017 Nick Linazasoro reported:
“PIXX (22:15-22:45 Komedia Studio). Hannah Rodgers from Chipstead in Surrey is the powerful vocalist Pixx. She is already signed to 4AD Records and so should do rather well with her distinctive sound, which has been heavily influenced by her fathers eclectic record collection. I can hear the Lene Lovich influence in her ‘Waterslides’ song and ‘I Bow Down’ is very catchy too and has an interesting video to accompany it. Her new album called ‘Age Of Anxiety’ is out now on 4AD. http://pixxmusic.com/”
