I hear that something a tad special will be going down at the iconic De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill on Sunday 25th August. There’s set to be an impressive nine hour all day beach – side terrace and auditorium party happening that will feature none other than Roni Size, the Scratch Perverts and Dat Brass.
The event will kick off at 2pm and run all the way through to 11pm. What better way to spend your sunny Sunday than listening to fab sounds and chillin’ out (or dancing) with your mates, right on the Sussex seafront.
For those who won’t be driving, then there’s the option of a little tipple or two, whether your bag is Malibu, Bacardi or Southern Comfort for £3 for 25ml or maybe one would prefer to relax on the lawn with a 50ml Pimm’s and Lemonade for £4. Sharing a choice bottle of Rioja with buddies won’t set you back a fortune either. Fancy something a bit more substantial, then Best Bitter from Lewes’s Harvey’s Brewery is also £3. There will be food on offer during certain times of the day, so you could start off with an enticing dish from the salad bar and around tea time opt for beer battered local fish to go with your chips.
Back on the music front and Mercury Prize winning Bristol lad Roni Size, real name Ryan Owen Granville Williams, will be performing an exclusive ‘Influences Set’ at the spacious venue. Over the years he has performed at many festivals in the UK and around the world including Glastonbury, Creamfields and Blue Dot. At the tail end of last year alone, Roni travelled to all corners of the globe, with shows in the USA, Australia, Asia and Brazil.
Roni’s whole life has been about building something new from whatever was around him. From Bristol youth club parties, through the white heat of rave and the founding moments of jungle and drum’n’bass, to transforming underground electronic music into something that could be played by a live band on the biggest arena and festival stages, he has at each stage created completely afresh – not just a sound or style but an entire methodology of how music can be made. And each time, that new creation has reflected his heritage, his surroundings and the precise moment in which he’s operating.
He continues to be in high demand with the world’s best festivals and events and with the promise of more brand new music coming in the near future, the sky always has been and still is the limit for Roni Size.
Also on the bill will be Prime Cuts and Tony Vegas, who are collectively the tour-de-force that is the Scratch Perverts, along with London’s 10 strong punk-jazz ensemble Dat Brass.
