A man has been arrested on suspicion of rape and sexual assault after a woman was attacked in Hove.
Sussex Police said this morning (Saturday 20 April): “Police are appealing for witnesses following a report of a sexual assault in Hove around 2am on Wednesday 17 April.
“The victim, a woman in her fifties, is believed to have met the suspect – who is not known to her – between St John’s Place and Second Avenue.
“The assault is then reported to have occurred behind commercial premises in Church Road.
“The suspect was wearing dark clothing and a baseball cap.
“Police were called at 2.25am and a 30-year-old man from Seaford was arrested on suspicion of rape and sexual assault.
“He has since been released on bail pending further inquiries.
“Police are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen the people involved.
“The victim is being supported by specially trained officers.
