A Brighton builder has been charged over an accident which left a three-year-old girl in hospital with serious head injuries for four months after she was hit by a falling piece of timber.
Grzegorz Glowacki, 40, of Rugby Road, Brighton, will appear at Brighton Magistrates Court on May 1 charged with an offence under Regulation 8 (1) of the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998.
This follows an investigation by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) into the incident in Preston Street last summer on July 6.
The little girl was in a buggy being pushed along the road by her mother when she was hit by the falling timber. She suffered serious head injuries and her recovery is still ongoing.
The timber fell from scaffolding surrounding number 14 Preston street. Neighbours said work was taking place on the flat above the Greek restaurant Alferia.
A planning application had been submitted for the flat in June by its new owner Myles Dhillon, a plumber from Hove, for a rear extension and alterations to the roof.
