The 58-year-old man who died on the A27 Brighton bypass at Hangleton last week has been named by Sussex Police as Alf Filer.
Mr Filer was believed to have been standing next to his broken down Vauxhall Astra when a Peugeot 306 crashed into it.
The collision is thought to have led to the Astra hitting Mr Filer, who lived in Elm Grove, Worthing.
Mr Filer died at the scene last Thursday (23 June).
The 35-year-old driver of the Peugeot, who lives in Brighton, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
He has been bailed until Tuesday 13 September.
