Nine cyclists were given fixed penalty tickets in Hove yesterday after a “day of action” by the Hove Neighbourhood Police Team.
Police Community Support Officer Darren Penter, of Sussex Police, said that the day of action had been held in response to concerns raised by residents.
PCSO Penter said: “When we met last month with local residents at St Andrew’s Church, Hove, concerns about parking, anti-social behaviour and cycling on the footpath were at the top of the agenda.
“Yesterday’s day of action involved officers patrolling George Street and the promenade, resulting in nine fixed penalty notices issued to cyclists for cycling on footpaths and also on the promenade.
“High-visibility patrols were also conducted in areas favoured by the street community in order to deter alcohol related anti-social behaviour.”
He said that there had been seven arrests in Hove since Thursday 31 March for alcohol-related offences.
The next local action team meeting will be held at St Andrew’s Church hall on Monday 25 July at 7pm.
