Sandi Toksvig, the universally-loved funny woman of Radio 4’s News Quiz, Bake off and QI fame, comes to Brighton’s Dome for just two nights on her tour, entitled National Trevor.
The title is a nod to her being referred to as a national treasure, much to her scorn.
“I don’t know where it’s come from, but I heartily disapprove. The thing I’m slightly obsessed with is our whole attitude to fame. There is a new trend of calling people a ‘National Treasure’. But I think everybody has something to commend them. Everyone has a story where you go, ‘Really?’ We don’t get to hear their stories of extraordinary endeavours.”
Sandi will bring her unique blend of stand-up, a Q+A, a raft of hilarious factoids of which Sandi is so fond, and even a Trivia Quiz: “I don’t know if you want to win it,” she smiles, “because then you have to come up on stage and talk to me all about your life!”
During the show, Sandi invites the audience to help her conduct a piece of music, too. “I get them to conduct Beethoven’s Ode to Joy!”
The show is part of a national tour – and the venue she’s most looking forward to playing? Brighton Dome, of course!
”I love Brighton. I took my grandson there recently for the day, and we had a marvellous time. I feel a real connection with the Dome. I’ve played there quite a lot of times. Some buildings are just particularly suited to stand up. At the Brighton Dome, you feel hugged by the audience.”
