A man has died just over three weeks after being attacked in Brighton.
Sussex Police said today: “A man has sadly died after being admitted to hospital two weeks after he was assaulted in Western Road, Brighton, on Sunday 2 December.
“It is believed that the 47-year-old victim was assaulted by a man at 11pm near Creams restaurant.
“The assault was reported to police on Monday 3 December and the victim did not seek medical treatment at the time.
“On Boxing Day (Wednesday 26 December) the police were notified that the victim had been admitted to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton on Saturday 17 December after becoming seriously ill and at that time he was considered to be in a critical condition.
“On Sunday (30 December) the victim passed away and an investigation is under way to establish how he died, what events led up to his death and whether any injuries suffered in the assault caused his death.
“Anyone who may have witnessed or was involved in this incident on 2 December, or who has any information about the movements and whereabouts of the victim from 2 December to 17 December, is asked to report details online or phone 101, quoting Operation Hughes.
