A man has been arrested on suspicion of raping a 17-year-old girl in a park in Hove after an appeal on the BBC television programme Crimewatch.
The 27-year-old suspect comes from Maidstone and was arrested in Kent yesterday afternoon.
He was brought to Sussex for questioning by detectives about the rape which took place in Dyke Road Park, Hove, at about 12.20am on Tuesday 15 February.
The girl was walking up Dyke Road when she was grabbed from behind by the Booth Museum in Brighton.
She was dragged across the road into the park and attacked.
The A-level student had been walking home after a night out in Brighton with friends when she realised that she was being followed.
Crimewatch featured a reconstruction of the incident just over a week ago (Tuesday 24 May) and broadcast previously unseen CCTV footage.
Detectives reported dozens of phone calls as a result.
Anyone with information can still call Sussex Police on 0485 6070999 or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
This young girl was incredibly brave to relive her ordeal on Crimewatch plus was strong & quick witted during the attack to try & identify him. This is a great result & everyone should be proud they got this man off the street & stopped from committing more attacks.
