UPDATED: A major search was under way after a man was seen going into the sea in Brighton early this morning (Monday 12 November).
The RNLI lifeboat crew from Brighton was called out just after 5.30am.
The all-weather lifeboat from Shoreham joined the Brighton crew in the search shortly before 6.30am.
The coastguard service sent a helicopter and shore-based support to take part in the search for the man.
He was reported to have gone into the sea near the “donut groyne”, close to the Palace Pier in Brighton.
The search was called off between 8am and 8.30am when the man was found safe and well at home.
