A drink driver who had only just been disqualified has been spared jail over a hit and run which left a 10-year-old with head injuries.
Duncan Segawa was driving his Ford Fiesta towards Brighton on the A23 in Pyecombe at about midday on 13 October when he hit the central barrier and then smashed into a Mini Cooper travelling the same way.
The Mini was being driven by a 42-year-old woman from Worthing, and the crash injured 10-year-old passenger Kai Everest.
But instead of stopping to check what damage and injuries he had caused, Segawa instead drove off.
Paramedics treated Kai for minor head injuries and he was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital to be checked over. Luckily nobody else was hurt.
Meanwhile, police tracked down Segawa and he was charged with drink driving, driving after being disqualified and failing to stop after injuring Kai.
On November 1, he pleaded guilty at Brighton Magistrates Court and was given a 12 week prison sentence suspended for two years and ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work.
He was also ordered to pay costs of £85, victim surcharge of £85 and disqualified for another 37 months.
Magistrates said the offence was so serious because the offences happened shortly after disqualification, they caused injury to a child and Segawa left the scene.
Astonishing that the barbarian was sentenced mildly. Everybody should turn their backs on Duncan Segawa. He is not fit to be in general company.
