Thousands of people are expected to celebrate the Olympic flame coming to Brighton on its way to the London Games next year.
Olympic torchbearers will bring the flame to Brighton on Monday 16 July from Portsmouth before taking it to Hastings the next day.
Brighton and Hove City Council promised an Olympic party to mark the occasion.
The event will culminate in the Olympic flame lighting a cauldron on Brighton seafront after two hours of entertainment.
A spokesman said: “Celebratory evening events, likely to be held in Madeira Drive, will offer thousands of people the opportunity to share in the Olympic spirit.”
The route of the Olympic torch was announced today by the London 2012 Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG).
The flame is due to arrive in Britain from Greece on Friday 18 May next year.
It will then be taken on an 8,000-mile relay round Britain starting at Land’s End in Cornwall.
The relay will end at the opening ceremony of the Games at the Olympic stadium in East London on Friday 27 July.
The relay is expected to stop in 74 places with the organisers aiming to ensure that 95 per cent of the population will be within an hour of at least one stop on the route.
The organisers are looking for 8,000 inspirational people to carry the Olympic flame for part of the route.
