GENTLEMAN’S DUB CLUB – CONCORDE 2, BRIGHTON 4.10.18
Having witnessed the rather wonderful Gentleman’s Dub Club octet in action in Brighton four months ago, I knew that this evening was going to be a hoot.
The eight (plus two) lads in question are Jonathan Scratchley (vocals and no shoes), Tommy Evans (drums), Luke Allwood (keys), Nick Tyson (guitar), Toby Davies (bass, synths, production), Niall Lavelle (percussion and burning jacket), Matt Roberts (trumpet), Kieren Gallagher (sax), Harry Devenish & Doug Hunt (sound).

‘Stardust’ is the first single from their forthcoming album ‘Lost In Space’, which will be unleashed on Easy Star Records on 25th January 2019. You can per-order the album HERE.
GDC were pandering to the lucky Brighton punters as they were in fact playing two 75 minute sets at the Concorde 2, an early show that opened its doors at 7pm (that we are reporting) and a later club night that finished as 2am.
GDC are a London-based dub collective who founded in Leeds in 2006 and have been making an indelible mark on the live music scene ever since. Their high-energy shows have gone down a storm at Glastonbury, Bestival, Boomtown and V Fest.
In fact, touring has taken the lads to international waters including countries such as India, Morocco, the USA and Iceland. This highlights the fact that their sound is universal.
Tonight at the Concorde 2, the crowd were a mixed bunch but the larger majority were in their late teens and early twenties and boy those standing around me at the front were singing along to every word. Die-hard fans indeed. They were well up for a party full of really mean reggae melodies of uplifting tracks sandwiched together, interspersed with stop-start songs. If you are fans of Bob Marley and UB40’s debut album ‘Signing Off’ and the slight sound and vibe of Madness meets Kiko Bun, then GDC will be for you.
The band were previewing quite a number of tracks from their forthcoming ‘Lost In Space’ album, and judging by what they sounded like, it’s very much business as usual for the guys, by that I mean certainly no dip in form – happy days!
