The iconic 1980’s Dirty Dancing arrives on stage in Brighton this week. Much loved and – surprisingly – critically acclaimed (at least initially) in its film format this show will be highly anticipated by many.
‘It’s quite a daunting role to take on because it’s so well known. It’s really exciting’ says actor Michael O’Reilly about playing Johnny Castle, the role made famous by Patrick Swayze. ‘You’re just excited to do it justice.’
Simone Covele playing Penny agrees that it ‘is an amazing privilege.’
The stage show follows the script and scene format of the film, so all the moments you love will be there, and, say the cast, it’s like re-living the film live. Kira Malou who takes on the role of Baby admits ‘everyone is waiting for that lift’! The show also features a live band playing the well-loved music. The cast and crew seem to be having the time of their lives with the performance – come and join the party!
Dirty Dancing is on at the Theatre Royal 21st – 29th September.
