The fun’s started at Glastonwick

PETER & THE TEST TUBE BABIES + MATILDA’S SCOUNDRELS + THE POPGUNS – GLASTONWICK 2018

Yesterday, the fun started at the wonderful Glastonwick Beer, Music and Poetry Festival. The event held at Church Farm, Coombes, West Sussex BN15 0RS is now in its 23rd year and the atmosphere last night was one of true friendship.

Glastonwick co-organiser Attila The Stockbroker

On a personal note, I stumbled upon old school mates that I haven’t seen for 40 years and 37 years. It’s funny how you recognise people after all these years, they grow up but their faces don’t really change. I spoke to other people I haven’t met for a few years and picked up exactly where we had previously left off. I met new people too, which was really easy because everyone is having the banter with everyone else.

Sadly I had missed the two opening acts David Rovics and Doctor Bongo due to meeting people, but I did catch The Popguns, Matilda’s Scoundrels and Peter & The Test Tube Babies.

Matilda’s Scoundrels getting the crowd going

All three bands played storming sets, with Matilda’s Scoundrels even getting several lines of crowd rowing boats going, as in the style of old disco hits rowing dance ‘Oops Upside Your Head’ by The Gap Band. The crowd during the Test Tube Babies were also up for it, with lifting people up and carrying them on their heads – scary looking but no-one got hurt.

The Popguns who formed in Brighton in 1986

All three sets were most enjoyable, with each act being presented to the crowd by the event co-organiser Attila The Stockbroker. Over the three days of the event, there are 21 bands booked to appear, so there will be opportunities to see some of these today (2nd June) and tomorrow, plus ample opportunity for you to try some of the 80+ cask-conditioned beers, cider, perry and food that is on offer. You are able to camp onsite too should you wish.

Glastonwick’s 2018 programme

The event is organised by Attila The Stockbroker and Alex Hall, in conjunction with the Duke Of Wellington, Church Farm and the Ropetackle Centre and tickets can be purchased online or in person at the Ropetackle Arts Centre as well as in person from the Duke Of Wellington, Brighton Road, Shoreham (01273 389818), The Schooner, Albion Street, Southwick (01273 592991), The Evening Star, Surrey Street, Brighton (01273 328931) and Anchored in Worthing (01903 529100).
