A mother had to be cut free from her car after a crash with a police car in Brighton.
The woman had her daughter with her in the car when the crash happened in Carden Avenue, Brighton, just before 7.30am yesterday (Tuesday 26 April).
Firefighters from East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service cut the woman out of her car which had demolished a wall and come to a halt in the front garden of a house.
Paramedics from South East Coast Ambulance Service took the mother and daughter for treatment at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton although they are not believed to have suffered serious injuries.
The police sergeant who was driving the police car and was alone in the vehicle was described as shocked but unhurt.
Sussex Police said: “The crash in Carden Avenue has not been referred to the IPCC (Independent Police Complaints Commission).
“As standard practice, the officer has had his emergency driving permit removed pending the investigation.
“Police officers using lights and sirens do so when appropriate and in an emergency situation.”
He was driving to Hove at the time of the crash to investigate a reported disturbance, although Sussex Police did not say whether this involved a threat to life or limb.
The matter was dealt with by another colleague.
