A fire this afternoon has damaged a commercial recycling company’s premises and six lorries in Bevendean.
The blaze started at about 2pm at Brighton Paper Round – formerly Magpie Commercial Recycling – at Hyde Business Park in Auckland Drive.
Six fire engines and more than 30 firefighters attended the blaze which destroyed 20 bales of waste paper before spreading to a plastics storage area and the lorries.
Some of the lorries are believed to have belonged to Team Waste, another waste disposal business.
Sussex Police said that the fire was being treated as arson.
The crews from East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service used an aerial ladder platform, three jets of water and foam as they brought the blaze under control.
Damping down was still taking place as relief crews took over at teatime.
The company expects to be able to continue to offer a normal service despite the fire.
