Brighton and Hove charities and community groups are at risk of missing out on a lottery handout, according to one of the MPs for the area.
Simon Kirby, the Conservative MP for Brighton Kemptown, urged local partnerships to bid for money from the Big Lottery Fund’s “Improving Futures” programme.
The fund gives out money from the National Lottery to good causes but has not received any applications from the Brighton and Hove area for its “Improving Futures” programme.
But it plans to give out 20 grants of up to £900,000 each.
The “Improving Futures” programme is intended to improve the chances of children from families in difficult circumstances, for example, those with health, debt or housing problems.
To qualify, local partnerships must be led by voluntary sector organisations and have local authority support.
The deadline for applications is Thursday 12 May.
Mr Kirby urged local partnerships to submit a bid, saying: “I hope local partnerships will consider this initiative and bring proposals to the Big Lottery Fund by 12 May.”
