The building supplies company whose warehouses were devastated by fire last week has reopened for business this morning.
An investigation continues into what started the blaze at Chandlers Building Supplies in Basin Road North, Hove, but foul play has now been ruled out.
The affected warehouses were being demolished over the weekend, while Chandlers staff worked hard to make sure the rest of the site was ready to welcome customers today.
Andrew Cope, MD, Chandlers Building Supplies, said: “This is a tremendous feat. The team has worked tirelessly over the past three days to get the branch ready to open again today.
“It is truly remarkable what this team has achieved in such a short period of time. We are all back in action and ready to serve customers.”
The manager of the store, Nigel Williams said that he was overwhelmed by the support shown to the team during and following the devastating fire last week.
He said: “I hope customers pop in today, even if just to say hello, as I want to thank everyone and ensure that everyone knows their kind words and support were very much appreciated.”
The fire service said this morning: “East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service is continuing its investigation into last week’s serious fire.
“The fire is not being treated as suspicious.”
Nobody was harmed during the incident last week, which involved several fire crews. The exact cause of the fire is still being investigated. Chandlers Building Supplies’ Brighton branch is also currently undergoing a large extension and this will be ready to open, as planned, in July.
Chandlers Building Supplies is a family owned builders merchants with 13 sites to include five specialist roofing merchants, throughout the South East, West Midlands and London.
This year it celebrates its 25th Anniversary backed by a reputation that spans 140 years from its origins in Lewes, East Sussex.
