Tobias Denyer, 35, unemployed, of no fixed address, was jailed for almost nine months in total when he appeared before Judge Guy Anthony at Lewes Crown Court today.
His 38-week prison sentence was handed down a variety of offences relating to domestic abuse, Sussex Police said.
Denyer admitted the offences earlier this week at a hearing before Brighton magistrates on Tuesday (13 March).
He also pleaded guilty to breaching a restraining order issued by the Brighton bench on Monday 4 December last year.
Denyer breached the order by visiting Angela King, his 52-year-old former partner, at her home in Findon Road, Brighton, on Friday 9 February.
He subjected her to several hours of physical and verbal abuse for which he was jailed for 26 weeks.
Denyer received an eight-week sentence for domestic abuse common assault, to run concurrently with – or at the same time as – this sentence.
He was sentenced to an extra four weeks consecutively for failing to supply a saliva sample to test for class A drugs.
And he was given a further eight weeks to be served consecutively when a suspended sentence for this period was activated.
Detective Constable Tom Duffy, from the Brighton Investigations Team, said: “Sussex Police will support victims of domestic abuse at all levels and is committed to bringing offenders to justice.
“Denyer’s jailing is a stark reminder to all those who commit domestic abuse that positive action will be taken against them.”
