The RNLI Brighton lifeboat crew towed a commercial fishing boat back to port early today (Saturday 26 March).
The fishing boat suffered an engine failure about half a mile south west of Brighton Marina at about 6.30am.
When the lifeboat crew reached the fishing boat, they found the lone skipper and his German shepherd dog safe and well but unable to make way under their own power.
A tow line was secured and the vessel safely returned to her berth.
The rescue took place on a calm sea in a light force 1 to force 2 wind with fair visibility.
The crew made it back to the marina by about 7.30am.
