The woman murdered in her Fiveways home this week was a Samaritan, described in a family tribute as “kind, gentle and loving”.
Sussex Police said this afternoon (Friday 27 October): “The woman who sadly died after being attacked in her own home in Sandgate Road, Brighton, has been named as 46-year-old Jillian Howell.
“Her devastated family have issued the following tribute to her: ‘Jill was a kind, gentle and loving sister, aunty and friend.’”
Her family said: “We are shocked and heartbroken by her loss.
“She touched many lives in her volunteer work with the Samaritans and was always helping others.
“She loved to travel and was a passionate Albion fan and season ticket holder.
“She lived life to the fullest and was dearly loved by her friends and family.”
Sussex Police added: “The family has asked to be left to grieve in private and hopes that this wish will be respected.
“A 51-year-old man arrested on suspicion of Jill’s murder remains in police custody.”
