Health chiefs in Brighton and Hove are hosting a public event to explain and discuss the Sustainability and Transformation Partnership (STP) for the area.
STPs – formerly known as Sustainability and Transformation Plans – have been controversial since their inception, not least because they were initially shrouded in secrecy.
This evening (Thursday 28 September) bosses from the Brighton and Hove Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) hope to demystify the STP for the local area.
The event – from 6pm to 8pm at Hove Town Hall – is part of the CCG’s Big Health and Care Conversation.
The CCG said that the STP was a way for the NHS and social care providers to “work together to improve and join up services to meet the changing needs of all of the people who live in our area”.
The initial secrecy made it relatively easy for campaigners to focus on claims that STPs were all about saving money.
But bosses at the Brighton and Hove CCG have made no secret of the fact that the local NHS is having to make some tough financial decisions.
But they are also keen to emphasise their desire to find better ways of providing services for patients and better ways to work with other NHS and social care organisations such as the council.
The CCG said: “Based on feedback we have received from our previous STP discussions, this event will provide participants an opportunity to join smaller discussion groups to talk to key leaders in Brighton and Hove and across the STP.
“We hope this will give attendees space to discuss their priority areas.
“People will be able to move around the groups if they wish to join more in more than one discussion. Our smaller discussion groups will include
- STP finances – This discussion group will focus on the most up-to-date information we have about the financial plans for the STP
- STP processes – This discussion group will focus on the structure of, and processes in, STPs, both locally and nationally
- Clinically effective commissioning – This discussion group will focus on how organisations across the STP are working to co-ordinate commissioning, to ensure that policies and processes are consistent and offer the most appropriate and effective care for patients
- Local plans – This discussion group will focus on local delivery plans across health and care in Brighton and Hove and how these feed into the STP
- Engagement – This discussion group will focus on how we best inform, engage with and consult residents of Brighton and Hove on issues related to the STP and relevant local plans
