Brighton and Hove Albion have signed a striker on loan from Premiership champions Chelsea and hope to field the 20-year-old at Southend United this evening (Tuesday 25 July).
The club said this afternoon: “Brighton and Hove Albion have completed the loan signing of Izzy Brown from Chelsea on a season-long agreement and he is expected to feature in tonight’s friendly at Southend United.
“The 20-year-old forward spent last season on loan with Rotherham United and Huddersfield Town, helping the Terriers secure promotion to the Premier League alongside Albion, via the play-off final.”
Albion manager Chris Hughton said: “The natural progression for Izzy, having enjoyed such a successful season in the Championship last season, was to step up to the Premier League – and we are delighted he will be doing that with us, here at Brighton.
“He is a player with great potential and will bring a different dimension to our attacking options for the season ahead, alongside our existing strikers.”
Albion said: “Brown began his career with West Bromwich Albion, where he made his Premier League debut after becoming the club’s Academy Player of the Season in 2012-13, before a move to Chelsea in the summer of 2013.
“He spent the 2015-16 season on loan at Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem, before securing a temporary move to Rotherham last summer.
“After an impressive spell with the Millers, Huddersfield signed Brown at the end of the January transfer window and he scored vital goals for the Terriers in their successful promotion bid.
“In addition to winning a Premier League U21 league and FA Youth Cup double in 2013-14, Brown also helped Chelsea retain the FA Youth Cup in 2014-15 and win the UEFA Youth League in the same season.
“He has also played for England at every level from under-16 through to under-20.”
