Youths hunted over threats and violent attempted robberies in Hove

A second stabbing in Brighton within 48 hours has left a man with injuries described as “life changing but not life threatening”.

Two men were taken to hospital with stab wounds after police and the ambulance service were called to a street in Coldean.

Neighbours said that it appeared to be a drugs deal gone wrong.

The stabbing last night (Monday 24 July) follows a fight at the KFC in London Road, Brighton, on Saturday night (22 July) which left an 18-year-old with critical injuries.

Sussex Police said: “A man has been arrested following a stabbing in Brighton.

“Police were called to reports of a disturbance in The Charltons, in Coldean, at about 8.27pm on Monday 24 July.

“On arrival, officers discovered a 38-year-old man outside an address with stab wounds.

“He was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton with injuries which are believed to be life changing but not life threatening. He remains in hospital at this stage.

“Police further located a 35-year-old man with stab wounds at a house in the same street.

“He was also taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.

“A 35-year-old man from Brighton, arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent and assaulting a police officer, remains in police custody at this stage.

“Anyone who saw what happened is asked to report it online at https://sussex.police.uk/appealresponse quoting serial 1302 of 24/07.

“Alternatively, you can visit the Crimestoppers website www.crimestoppers-uk.org or contact the independent charity anonymously on 0800 555111.”

Two people were arrested after the stabbing at KFC on Saturday and were brought before the bench at Brighton Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Another suspect, Jordan Ash, 18, remains on the run.

Mehash McKenzie, 23, a sales assistant, of Bolney Road, Moulsecoomb, and a 15-year-old-boy also from Brighton, have both been charged with causing grievous bodily harm and with having a knife in a public place. McKenzie is also charged with having cannabis.

They have been committed to Lewes Crown Court on Monday 21 August.

The victim on Saturday, Dennis Thompson-Simpson, 18, was stabbed in the stomach. He was taken to the Royal Sussex before being flown to King’s College Hospital, London, in a critical condition.

Another 18-year-old, Jordan Jillians, suffered cuts and bruises during the fight.

Yesterday Detective Inspector Andy Wolstenholme said: “If you know where Jordan Ash is or see him, do not approach him but please contact the police via 999 quoting serial 1363 of 22/07.

“If you have any other information, saw what happened or have seen any mobile phone footage of the incident, please contact us online.

“You can also contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.”
