A memorial to Hove greengrocer Tony Magdi is expected to be in place by the middle of May.
An olive tree is likely to be planted close to his home and shop in Portland Road, with brass plaques on the planter.
The plaques will include information about Mr Magdi and pictures of fruit and vegetables.
The planter is expected to be one metre square and a metre high.
Mr Magdi died in November three weeks after he was attacked by a cyclist in a road rage incident across the street from his shop.
The steering group of the Tony Magdi Memorial Fund met at the Westbourne pub in Portland Road on Saturday (5 February) and heard that the fund stood at just under £2,000.
This followed the quiz night at the Westbourne last month which raised £1,004, with the remainder coming from small individual donations.
Councillor Brian Oxley, who represents Westbourne ward on Brighton and Hove City Council, said that the mayor, Councillor Geoff Wells, had agreed to attend a dedication ceremony.
It was likely to take place on the weekend of Saturday 14 May and Sunday 15 May when a music event or children’s could also be held.
Fundraising continues and cheques can be sent, payable to Brighton and Hove City Council, to the Mayor’s Charity Fund via Councillor Oxley at 37 Blenheim Court, New Church Road, Hove, BN3 4AJ.
Those wishing to donate but not in the form of a cheque to Cllr Oxley can make loose change and cash donations in Portland Road shops Down to Earth, Second Seed, at the post office,in Snackerama and at the Westbourne Pub.
