A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was found dead in a house in Brighton this morning.
Sussex Police officers were alerted by ambulance paramedics who were called to an address in Rosebery Avenue, Woodingdean, at 7am today.
The body of a 46-year-old woman was found there.
A 46-year-old local man was arrested at the house and is currently in police custody awaiting interview.
Detective Chief Inspector Nick May, of the Sussex Police Major Crime Branch, is leading the investigation into the woman’s death.
He said: “The circumstances surrounding the woman’s death are not completely clear to us at the moment.
“The investigation is in its early stages and forensic teams are working on examining the house where the incident took place.
“We have one man in custody who was arrsested at the scene on suspicion of murder and we are not looking for anyone else at this stage of the investigation.
“As part of our inquiries I would like to speak to anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the Rosebery Avenue area of Woodingdean in the past 24 hours.”
A post-mortem examination is not expected to be carried out until tomorrow (Sunday 6 February) to establish the cause of death.
