An arsonist or arsonists are believed to have started a fire at a Brighton church last night (Thursday 15 June).
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: “At 9.34pm, one fire engine from Roedean, two from Preston Circus and the aerial ladder platform from Preston Circus were sent to Kemp Town.
“There was a fire at St John the Baptist Church, in Bristol Road. The building was being renovated.
“Four breathing apparatus, one hose reel and the aerial ladder platform were used.
“The fire is being treated as deliberate.”
Earlier, at 8.43pm, Hove firefighters attended a rubbish bin fire on the seafront, in Kingsway, Hove.
The fire service said that one hose reel was used to put the fire out.
It was accidental.
