A man was seriously injured in an unexplained attack on Brighton seafront, Sussex Police said this afternoon (Tuesday 13 June).
The force said: “Police are seeking witnesses after a man was seriously injured in a Brighton seafront attack.
“At 1.15am on Saturday (10 June) the 50-year-old Edinburgh man, who was visiting the city on business, was walking along the north pavement of King’s Road, between West Street and Middle Street, when he was struck in the face by another man and fell to the ground, sustaining a serious head injury.
“He was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital where he is currently in a serious but not life-threatening condition.
“No weapon was seen and nothing was stolen.
“The suspect, who is described as black, in his twenties, about 5in 10ft, of large build, wearing dark clothing with a hood up, is believed to have made off up Middle Street.”
Detective Constable Shirley White said: “The reason for this vicious attack is not currently clear.
“We are keen to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious along that stretch of pavement or near by in the moments before the attack or who saw the attack itself.
“If you can help, please contact us via https://sussex.police.uk/appealresponse or call 101, quoting serial 82 of 10/06.”
It’s known as “the knockout game”, the intention being to render the randomly-chosen victim unconscious with a single punch.
The cancer of political “correctness” forbids further elaboration.
