An MP has urged Business Secretary Vince Cable to base the government’s proposed new Green Investment Bank in Brighton.
Simon Kirby, the Conservative MP for Brighton Kemptown, called on Mr Cable to locate the bank in the town during a House of Commons select committee hearing.
Mr Cable declined to commit one way or the other but said that the matter was under review.
Mr Kirby was speaking during an evidence session for the Environmental Audit Committee’s inquiry into the proposed Green Investment Bank.
Mr Kirby said: “Vince Cable didn’t answer yes or no but I urged him to give serious consideration to locating the new Green Investment Bank in Brighton.
“I told him that as one of the two Brighton MPs I was very interested in green issues and particularly the Green Investment Bank.
“I left the Secretary of State in no doubt that Brighton would welcome the bank with open arms and it would fit with the eagerness of the city to embrace environmental initiatives to help the planet and boost business.”
