An arsonist is suspected to have started a series of fires on one night in Brighton, prompting fire chiefs to ask the public for help.
A café, a Transit van and a motorbike were all set alight within two hours, with the first blaze reported shortly before 1am on Friday (21 April).
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said that it was “urging the public to stay alert after an apparent spate of deliberate fires in the Whitehawk area of Brighton in the early hours of Friday”.
The fire service said: “Your information is crucial. Do you have any information about someone deliberately starting fires?
“By calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555111, you can pass on information about arson or any other crime without telling us your name.”
Roedean firefighters were sent to Manor Road, in Brighton, at 12.43am on Friday after a Transit van was set alight.
Just over an hour later Brighton firefighters were sent to nearby Bowring Way where a motorbike was on fire.
And at 1.22am Roedean firefighters were sent to Manor Paddock after reports of a fire in the open.
At 2.32am two fire engines, from Roedean and Preston Circus, Brighton, were sent to Maderia Drive, in Brighton, after reports of a café fire, involving decking and a roof terrace.
Less than eight hours earlier Roedean firefighters had been sent to put out a bin fire in Madeira Drive, although this was started by accident.
Not long afterwards, at 7.19pm on Thursday (20 April), Hove firefighters had to deal with another rubbish bin on fire, in Hove Park Road, Hove.
At 7.48pm firefighters from Preston Circus were sent to Cornwall Gardens, in Brighton, after reports of a fire in the open. The crew made the area safe.
At just after 2am firefighters were sent to Powis Grove, Brighton, when the electrics in two flats were affected by flooding. Fire crews made the electrics safe and gave advice to the people living in the flats.
And at just after 5am on Friday firefighters from Preston Circus were sent to Surrenden Road, Brighton, again after a flooding of electrics. Crew members isolated the leak and made the electrics safe.
