The temporary shared cycle and pedestrian path at the bottom of West Street has been suddenly closed this afternoon due to “unforeseen ground conditions”.
It’s thought that the closure is connected to works to rebuild the Shelter Hall beneath.
A council spokesman said: “Unfortunately we’ve had to close the temporary shared cycle and pedestrian path on the seafront at the bottom of West Street.
“We’re asking pedestrians and cyclists to use the nearby pedestrian crossings. Cyclists will need to dismount. We hope to confirm the duration of this closure soon.
“We’re carrying out essential works to reinforce the seafront arches at this point. The path behind the current Shelter Hall works is closed due to unforeseen ground conditions.”
