A driver from Brighton has been charged over the hit and run death of a man in January during a police chase.
Gavin David Dawes, 33, unemployed, of Phoenix Rise, Brighton, has been charged with causing the death of Jonos Sasvari by dangerous driving on Tuesday 10 January in Old Steine, Brighton.
Dawes was also charged with two additional counts of dangerous driving and was remanded to appear at Brighton Magistrates’ Court today (Friday 10 March).
Mr Sasvari, 78, who was known as John, or Hungarian John, and lived in Little Preston Street, Brighton, died at the scene on the corner of Old Steine and St James’s Street.
Another man, a 35-year-old, remains on police bail for dangerous driving, drink driving, failing to stop for police and failing to report an accident. He is due to answer bail on Tuesday (14 March).
The Independent Police Complaints Commission is investigating how the police chase unfolded, as is routine in fatal crashes involving police pursuits.
