A series of spring cleans around the city has been organised as part of this weekend’s Great British Spring Clean – and Cityclean is putting its services at the disposal of anyone wishing to organise more.
Costumes ( hi-vis jackets) and equipment (gloves litter pickers, brooms and sacks) will be provided for anyone wanting to help rid the city of unsightly rubbish.
Events are already being planned in Brighton and Hove as part of the year’s Great British Spring Clean, organised by the Keep Britain Tidy group, in parks and open spaces from Bevendean to Stoneham.
Councillor Gill Mitchell, chair of the Environment, Transport and Sustainability Committee said: “It’s great to see communities coming together to join the Great British Spring Clean and help us tidy up their neighbourhoods.
“Not only are they improving the appearance of the city, they are also encouraging residents to take more care of their local environment too.”
Residents, communities and businesses are being invited to come forward and volunteer to clean up their local area. The council has 6,000 special Great British Spring Clean sacks available for community clean up events and the council will be designating special drop off points for sacks of rubbish collected at events.
Cityclean is happy for residents to arrange and run their own event, but can provide an member of staff to co-ordinate if needed.
The council can also provide posters for communities and businesses to promote their events.
