Huddersfield Town 3 Brighton & Hove Albion 1
Albion had a day to forget as disallowed goals, a sending off and fans’ travel problems ended with the Seagulls losing at Huddersfield Town.
Tommy Smith opened the scoring for the Tykes although not along after Tomer Hemed equalised for Albion.
But further goals from Nahki Wells and Elias Kachunga saw Town go into the break with a two-goal lead.
Glenn Murray saw a header ruled out for offside just before Kachunga’s decisive third goal.
Albion never really looked like getting back into it, especially after Lewis Dunk was sent off for a second yellow card after a two-footed challenge on Izzy Brown.
Chuba Akpom showed some promise after coming on as a substitute. But Albion missed Dale Stephens, who didn’t travel due to having taken a slight knock.
Some Seagulls fans were forced to turn back en route to the game after emergency roadworks caused havoc on the M23 early this afternoon. Perhaps after all it was the unlucky ones made it to West Yorkshire.
Albion stay top, still five points clear of third place and still with a game in hand. They face Brentford at Griffin Park on Sunday (5 February).
