An 87-year-old woman has died after being hit by a taxi in North Street last Tuesday afternoon.
Police were called to the scene at 2.15pm on Tuesday (10 January) following reports a taxi had collided with two pedestrians when it was turning right.
Both women, who were walking arm in arm, were knock to the ground. One, an 87-year-old woman, was treated for a head injury by paramedics at the scene. Unfortunately the woman passed away on Thursday, two days later.
The younger woman, who Brighton and Hove News understands was her daughter, sustained only minor injuries consisting of grazing.
Sergeant Clare Kenward from the roads policing unit said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the woman as this very tragic time. Enquiries are on-going to determine the circumstances of the incident and we ask anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed what happened to get in touch.”
Police are also asking local taxi drivers who may have seen the accident, which involved two women pedestrians. In particular, they are wanting to speak to a second taxi driver who stopped to allow the vehicle involved in the crash turn right.
They would also like to speak to any drivers who witnessed the accident or may have caught the crash on their in car CCTV.
