City businesses are being given the chance to become cleaner, more environmentally-friendly and fully lawful on the waste they produce, thanks to a new council recycling and rubbish service.
Companies can now apply to have their waste collected, buy sacks, get rid of bulky rubbish and receive help with all their business, trade and commercial waste needs.
Businesses can also hire a bin for sole use, which includes delivery, collection and disposal of the waste.
They will also be given a Duty of Care certificate to show they have proper recycling and rubbish collection in place and are disposing of their waste legally. All businesses are required by law to arrange the safe and legal storage, removal and disposal of the recycling and refuse they create.
Cllr Gill Mitchell, chair of the council’s Environment, Transport & Sustainability Committee, said: “This is a fantastic new service that I believe will bring great benefits to businesses by being able to manage their waste more effectively and maximise recycling. We’ll work with businesses, help them find and choose the best solutions for their needs and make sure they are legal.”
The council is offering a free site visit for businesses to discuss the best solutions, or can request a guideline price by visiting www.brighton-hove.gov.uk/tradewaste, emailing commercial.waste@brighton-hove.gov.uk or calling 01273 290798.
