More than 4,000 Britons had surgery to tackle their obesity last year with Brighton among the biggest contributors to the big figures.
According to the News of the World, the NHS carried out stomach stapling operations on 4,221 patients.
The newspaper said that Brighton was third behind Milton Keynes and Southampton in a table of towns and cities with obesity problems, citing a report by the drug company GlaxoSmithKline.
By contrast, Brighton and Hove came seventh in a list of Britain’s slimmest places in a report on the Sky News website less than 18 months ago.
Maybe Hove has more than its fair share of underweight people to balance bigger Brighton.
