A suspected unexploded bomb has been found in Hove cemetery.
Sussex Police officers have cordoned off the area and are waiting for bomb disposal officers to arrive at the cemetery in Old Shoreham Road, Hove.
The suspected device is not believed to be new but could be an unexploded shell dating from the Second World War.
The find was reported to police at 11.30am today.
Officers were considering whether it would be necessary to evacuate people living closest to the cemetery should a controlled explosion prove to be necessary.
The homes nearest the north side of the cemetery are in Elm Drive, Rowan Avenue and Stapley Road.
