A merger of City College and Worthing’s Northbrook College would see the new institution named The Metropolitan College.
The announcement came as a month-long joint consultation was launched today into the colleges’ plans.
It asks just four questions:
1. Do you agree or disagree that the proposed merger of City College Brighton & Hove and Northbrook College will effectively meet the needs of students, communities and employers of Brighton and Hove, Adur and Worthing?
2. Do you think that any group, including students or staff, will be adversely affected by these proposals?
If so, would you please state what group and how you believe they will be affected.
3. Are there any local needs that are not currently met that you would like to see addressed through the merger?
4. Do you support the proposed name of the merged college: The Metropolitan College?
The proposed merger, announced in March, came after a government review of the regions further education provision, with a focus on opportunities for mergers.
The new institute will continue to keep campuses across Brighton, Shoreham and Worthing but be led by a central executive team and governing body.
The Pelham Street campus will concentrate on creative, digital and IT, while its new east Brighton site will concentrate on construction, as already planned.
It will teach around 3,500 16-18 year old students, 7,500 adults 1,000 undergraduates and more than 800 apprentices, generating an income of circa £40 Million.
