A man has been arrested after a 19-year-old woman was killed in Portslade yesterday (Thursday 25 August).
Sussex Police said that the force had had previous contact with the dead teenager and so had referred the case to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).
The force said: “Inquiries continue into the death of a 19-year old woman at an address in Chrisdory Road, Mile Oak, on Thursday 25 August and the 27-year old man arrested on Thursday on suspicion of murder is still in custody for interview and further inquiries.
“A post-mortem is expected to take place in Brighton later today.
“The address is still a crime scene and forensic work continues.
“We are not formally identifying the dead woman at this stage but will do so as soon as possible.
“The death has been notified to the IPCC owing to there having been previous police contact with the deceased and other people.
“Her family have been informed of this development.
“We await the IPCC’s decision as to how any internal investigation will be conducted.”
