A man with brain damage was left with a broken hip after being attacked in the street in the centre of Brighton.
Sussex Police issued an appeal for information about the attack on the vulnerable 39-year-old man this afternoon (Wednesday 10 August).
The force said: “Police are appealing for information after a man broke his hip when he was assaulted in Brighton.
“The 39-year-old victim was walking home and was at the junction of Church Street and Portland Street at 11.40pm on Tuesday 2 August when he was approached by a group of four men.
“One of them asked the victim for money and when the victim has said he didn’t have any and tried to walk on, he was hit to his back. He fell to the ground and the men ran off.”
Detective Constable Aaron Halsey said: “Thankfully two people came to his aid and police and ambulance were called.
“The victim, who has brain damage, was taken to hospital and was found to have broken his hip. He remains in hospital and will need to have surgery on his leg.
“He is extremely vulnerable because of his brain injury and the men may have targeted him because of this. We are appealing to anyone with information about the attack to come forward.”
