Train services between London and Brighton and Hove will be disrupted for the rest of the day after a trackside fire outside Gatwick Airport this morning (Tuesday 26 July).
Southern said: “A fire broke out this morning on a section of track outside Gatwick Airport. The emergency services attended and the fire is out.
“However, the electrical third rail, running rail, and some surrounding cables have all suffered extensive damage.
“Network Rail, who own and maintain the signalling and track, have advised us that this damage has rendered two of the four lines through Gatwick Airport unusable.
“Network Rail are working to make the necessary repairs. However, disruption to trains is expected to continue for the rest of the day.”
Network Rail said: “Services running through Gatwick Airport may be delayed by up to 60 minutes. Gatwick Express are running a slightly reduced service. Disruption is expected to continue until the end of service.”
