A Hove restaurant has been told that it cannot serve alcohol and play music until 5am.
Jade Restaurant in Western Road, Hove, applied for permission to extend the hours of its current licence.
Liberal Democrat councillor Paul Elgood, who represents Brunswick and Adelaide on Brighton and Hove City Council, welcomed the decision.
He said: “As a ward councillor, I spoke on behalf of neighbouring residents, concerned at the potential for late night noise and disturbance.
“The outcome is very good news for residents.
“The application would have meant the sale of alcohol until 5am and, with it, loud karaoke music.
“This is completely unacceptable to residents at this time of the morning who would have been severely disturbed by it.”
