Sussex Police urged anyone who saw a bus crash in Brighton which left a pedestrian with serious head and back injuries to come forward.
The force said: “At 5.40pm on Friday (8 April) emergency services were called to the A23 Preston Road, Brighton, near its junction with Rookery Close where a man and a double-decker bus had been in collision.
“The pedestrian, a 53-year-old man from Seaford, sustained serious head and back injuries.
“He was treated at the scene by paramedics and an air ambulance medical team before being taken by land ambulance to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton.
“The bus, a Brighton and Hove Bus Company service, was driven by a 35-year-old man from Eastbourne, who was unhurt.
“There were also no reports of any injuries to passengers.
“The road was closed and diversions put in place until 9.25pm while the incident was investigated.”
