Mystery surrounds how a man came to be lying in a road in Portslade with life-threatening injuries.
Paramedics were called to Hillside at 5.35am on Tuesday (April 12), where the victim, a local man in his mid-50s, was lying in the road, having apparently been struck by a vehicle.
His injuries were at first thought not to be too serious, but he was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton where he is now in a critical, life-threatening condition.
Sergeant Alan Spicer from the Surrey and Sussex roads policing unit said: “We are investigating a number of possibilities as why this man was where he was and how he sustained his injuries. We have not discounted anything at this time.
“If you saw him in the area at any time leading up to the ambulance service being called, please email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or call 101 quoting Operation Parkhurst.”
