Light snow has been falling on Brighton and Hove this evening after the cold daytime temperatures dipped to just below freezing.
The snow, which has not settled on any major roads yet, is expected to stop around about midnight.
But commuters can expect icy roads in the morning, with overnight temperatures of -2C.
And there is the possibility of another light shower of snow in the morning during or just after the rush hour.
Temperatures are expected to rise slightly as Christmas shoppers in Brighton and Hove face a wet weekend, especially after lunch on both Saturday and Sunday.
And the blowy forecast for Sunday will add to the chill in the air.
It should, however, be dry but freezing cold for the match between Brighton and Hove Albion and Notts County at Withdean Stadium tomorrow evening.
While the thermometer should register a modest rise over the weekend, it will slip below zero again late on Monday or in the small hours of Tuesday morning.
It should though stay snow-free before the mercury rises to about 7C by late next Thursday.
