City College Brighton and Hove is aiming for “50 in 5” – 50 apprenticeships over five days – during Apprenticeship Week which starts next Monday (14 March).
College chiefs will be urging employers to pledge to take on an apprentice during the week as part of an effort to create more opportunities in Brighton and Hove.
There is a focus this year on five areas
- Creative and digital media
- IT and software
- Accountancy
- Barbering
- Patisserie
City College chief executive Nick Juba said: “Apprenticeship Week nationally is a really effective way of highlighting and celebrating the opportunities apprenticeships create for the workforce.
“And here in Brighton we’re looking to build on the fantastic support we’ve had from employers in past years to help young people get their first step on the career ladder.
“There are specific areas where there is an acute need for apprenticeship opportunities but we’re eager to hear from employers across all sectors.”
The college works with many local employers from big international businesses to small local firms.
A dedicated Apprenticeship Team aims to match the right apprentice to the right employer with the college providing expert tuition and dedicated business support using modern facilities.
Employers interested in taking on an apprentice are asked to email apprenticeship@ccb.ac.uk or call 01273 667770.
Apprenticeship Week runs from Monday 14 March to Friday 18 March.
The college is also holding an open evening tomorrow (Wednesday 9 March) from 5pm to 7pm at both the Central Campus in Pelham Street, Brighton, and the East Campus, in Wilson Avenue, Whitehawk. A free shuttle bus will run between the two campuses throughout the evening.
